IMM Cologne 2018

B&B Italia opens the year 2018 with a presentation, in Cologne, of the year’s first developments, namely, two new outdoor projects designed respectively by the British duo Doshi Levien and by the Japanese designer, Naoto Fukasawa.
Bay by Doshi Levien is a collection of sculptural, monolithic outdoor seats. Their enveloping, sensually shaped volumes are marked by a double polypropylene fibre braid that creates air pockets, granting transparency and lightness to the furnishings. The aluminium frame accommodates padded rock-like seats and soft cushions that reflect the elegance, comfort and refinement of B&B Italia’s indoor products. Naoto Fukasawa presents Fiore, a new set of large and small, round or square outdoor tables in cement, available in white or greige. “Many years ago, I called my chairs ‘Papilio’ because their silhouettes reminded me of butterflies,” says Naoto Fukasawa. “Now I have called my latest project ‘Fiore’, or flower in Italian, because the Papilio chairs sit around these tables like butterflies flying around a flower. The combination of a Fiore table with the Papilio chairs creates a pleasant outdoor environment for a coffee or a quick meal.”
These new ‘en plein air’ living solutions feature alongside existing outdoor products, now available in new sizes and finishes - see Erica and Mirto by Antonio Citterio and Tobi-Ishi by E. Barber and J. Osgerby. These, together with the most recent B&B Italia and Maxalto projects, recreate the company’s typical sophistication and elegance in welcoming and refined environments.
