Description

Quiet Lines, a transversal collection consisting of writing desk, bench, bedside table, and screen, is the result of research into serenity by Gabriel Tan and B&B Italia. The silhouette of each collection piece is made up of curved and straight lines, with a striking graphic mark. The curved surfaces upholstered in leather provide tactility and comfort and muffle the sound of objects as they are placed on the shelves. The screen responds to the need to delimit and define spaces. It is proposed with three or four doors covered in leather that can be adjusted as desired.

Gabriel Tan

Gabriel Tan is a designer based in Singapore and Porto. In 2006 he co-founded the Singapore and Barcelona based design collective Outofstock, where he was a partner for 10 years. He started his design practice - Gabriel Tan Studio, and interior architecture firm - Studio Antimatter, in 2016, then relocated to Portugal in 2020 to establish his European studio. A designer working at cultural intersections, Gabriel Tan often explores new ways to reinterpret tradition, craft or technology. He has designed furniture and products for both progressive and historic international brands while creative directing Japanese furniture brand Ariake and his craft driven design brand Origin Made.

A former navy man who made the switch to industrial design, Gabriel Tan's ability to redefine existing archetypes and sensitivity to details are key to his work. Being based in both Singapore and Porto allows him and his team to draw on influences from both Asia and Europe, informing the studio’s design process and inspiring new discoveries.

His works have won the Industrial Designers Society of America's IDEA Award, Japan Good Design Award, the Singapore President's Design Award and have been published and exhibited globally. He has guest lectured at Lasalle College of the Arts, National University of Singapore, University of Oregon, Pratt Institute, and served as a jury member at the Cannes Lions Festival.
