Description

The Pablo armchair by Vincent Van Duysen, with its decisive design and innovative proportions, is available in an outdoor version, breathing life into a series that includes an armchair in two depths, sofa, and footrest. The soul of the original project lies in the wood frame, which for Pablo Outdoor is made of teak, the ideal material for outdoors. The geometry of the supporting frame presents a sophisticated balance of straight and curved lines, but this is not just an aesthetic choice. In fact, the frame, with its uninterrupted surface, was designed to ease maintenance of the wood, which is easy to treat as necessary. The rear fabric panels are anchored to rods that can be removed easily. This is also an aesthetic choice that meets a technical solution aimed at simplifying care for the wood and maintenance of the textile parts. These design expedients allow customers choosing the Pablo Outdoor collection to let it age naturally or have it returned its original condition. The continuity of the form and quality of the wood make Pablo Outdoor particularly pleasant to the touch. Comfort and softness are also found in the deep seat and back enhanced with cushions that can be arranged freely. The low seat is composed of a single generously upholstered cushion, nearly a mattress that creates an ample area perfect for isolating yourself or sharing moments of conviviality.

Vincent Van Duysen

Vincent Van Duysen was born in Lokeren, Belgium, in 1962. After earning a degree from the Sint-Lucas School of Architecture, Ghent, he worked with Aldo Cibic in Milan, followed by a collaboration with Jean De Meulder in Antwerp, Belgium. In 1989, he established Vincent Van Duysen Architects. Today, the firm has grown into a team of about 40 collaborators with work ranging from product design for numerous international brands, to commercial and large-scale architectural projects, with a focus on high-end residences.

From the outset, a definite relationship between architecture, interior and product design has been the driving force behind the conception of projects inspired by subtle transitions between these disciplines and combined with a spatial design attitude, constantly striving for the essence. The use of pure and tactile materials translates into clean, timeless design. With respect to context and tradition, it’s an approach within which the senses, and the physical experience of space, textures and light place the integrity of the user at its core. Functionality, durability and comfort are the prime components of the work, an architectural language not shy to convey aesthetics, but prone to eschew fashion and trends.

During his career, Van Duysen has received multiple awards among which the Flemish Culture Prize for Design, the Belgian Designer of the Year, the Henry van de Velde Lifetime Achievement Award, and an EDIDA for Best Interior Designer of the Year. In 2021, his project Winery VV has been nominated and shortlisted for the Mies Van Der Rohe Award.

For many years, Van Duysen’s work has been appearing on a number of prestigious international publications. Starting from 1994, his projects and realizations have also been featured in different monographs among which those edited by the renowned publishing house Thames & Hudson. In 2024, “Vincent Van Duysen: Private” has been published by Rizzoli.
