GARTH ROBERTS | DESIGNER EN
Garth Roberts’ career began in his native Toronto. Soon thereafter, it took him to New York, where he established his first design base. During his five years there, Garth designed interiors, product design, and branding. He also founded the concept-driven design collective Group Inc. for which he is now Art Director-at-large. In 2005 Garth expanded his design presence to include the cities of Berlin and Milan. Since landing in Europe he has designed for Zanotta, Fasem and Classicon. Garth’s cross-disciplinary design approach is guided by an aesthetic philosophy that creates a delicately balanced tension between pure materials and essential forms. The success of this approach has resulted in critical recognition by design critic Gilles Dorfles, an entry in the International Design Yearbook 2007 and the Elle Decoration International Design Award for Best Furniture Piece in 2006. In Milan, in early 2007, Garth launched the first of a series of international pop-up design ateliers as part of a project called Adhoc, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano, Universität der Künste (Berlin), Parsons University (New York) and sponsored by Sony, Corian and Moleskine. Currently, Garth maintains his international viewpoint on creativity by living and designing between Milan, Berlin and New York.
